When I first started a business, my finances were never organized. I was in the restaurant industry, and I was constantly scrambling and stressed.
As a business owner, I wish I’d known how much freedom comes from keeping my finances consistently organized, reconciled, and up-to-date.
That kind of freedom comes as a direct result of the following benefits that come out of keeping your finances organized…
Less firefighting
The process of organizing and reconciling your financial data creates less stress around your business finances, which means less firefighting.
If everything is organized and reconciled, then you know the information is good. And if the information is good, it’s always there for you when you need it.
Having the ability to go into your financial data and know that it’s accurate and current should provide a sense of comfort and satisfaction. Because you’ll know that everything is caught up.
It doesn’t necessarily mean the information is good news, because if the business isn’t performing well, it may not look pretty.
But it does mean that you won’t be scrambling when you need to understand the financial health of your business, such as before making a big business decision.
Faster decisions
If your financial data is reconciled and organized, you’ve got what you need to start making decisions for your business.
For instance, let’s say you want to grow your business. You can’t know what that looks like or what that means if you don’t have organized, updated financial information.
But when you keep your financial data clean and reconciled on a regular basis, you’ll have it ready for when you want to start making financial decisions that impact your business.
Meaning, you’ll spend less time getting this data together and more time deciding what to do next.
Better planning
Once you decide what to do next, you’ll need to plan how to do it. And since you can’t have a solid plan without all the necessary information, you’ll need accurate financial data.
If everything is organized, you have the ability to pull the financial information needed to make the best kind of plan.
For instance, if your business isn’t doing well, you’ve got to have a cash flow forecast so you can know if you’re going to run out of cash.
And if that’s the case, you need to have time to work on a plan, be that moving money from your personal account, taking out a loan, or getting a line of credit from a bank.
But you can’t do any of this unless your financial data is organized and up-to-date.
Less burden (when you have help)
If you’re like I was when I first started my business, you’re taking on the burden of thinking you can do it all yourself.
So, you go home and you’re trying to catch up on your finances on the weekends or during the evenings.
When you have someone (like me and my team) helping you keep everything organized and reconciled, your business finances aren’t as burdensome. And you’ll have the freedom that comes from knowing that your financial data is ready for you when you need it.
This means you can do less firefighting, make faster decisions, and plan better without the burden of doing it all on your own.
So, you can instead spend your weekends and your evenings with your family instead of constantly feeling like you need to get caught up on your finances.
Bottom line
When I started my business, I wish I’d known that as a business owner, you can gain a sense of freedom by knowing all of your accounting and your books are organized and up-to-date and accurate.
If you aren’t experiencing this freedom, and you want help keeping your finances organized on a regular basis, let’s talk. This is what my team and I do.
